The information found in the COVID-19 section of Benefits Plus Online is available at no cost from the Community Service Society of New York in an effort to support professionals who are working with vulnerable population groups during this emergency.

Caution: The information contained in this chapter is subject to change as federal, state and local governments implement laws and policies. Changes are occurring rapidly and as the U.S. Congress and New York State pass new laws and procedures we make every attempt to keep the information up to date. As the Learning Center learns of these changes we review and update the information herein; however, we do not claim that all changes and updates have been captured. Many of the programs and benefits that are covered in the COVID-19 section of Benefits Plus Online are programs and benefits that existed before the Coronavirus pandemic. COVID-19: Public Health Emergency Declaration

FEDERAL

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has extended the COVID-19 public health emergency declaration for another 90 days effective February 9, 2023. This will be the final extension of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The states will have these last 90 days to prepare for the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency, which will conclude on May 11, 2023.

HHS initially declared the Corona Virus a public health emergency on January 31, 2020. It has been extended since that time.

NEW YORK STATE

New York States’s COVID-19 State Disaster Emergency expired on June 24. 2021 The state’s emergency was initially declared on March 6, 2021.
